Description

Job Title: Plant Operator

 

Job Summary:

A sewage treatment plant operator is responsible for operating and maintaining equipment used in the treatment of sewage and wastewater. This includes monitoring the treatment process, conducting tests to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, performing routine maintenance on equipment, Housekeeping and troubleshooting any issues that arise during operation.

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Operate Equipment: Monitor and control pumps, valves, blowers, and other equipment used in the treatment process to ensure efficient operation.
  2. Monitor Treatment Process: Regularly inspect treatment processes such as screening, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection to ensure proper functioning and compliance with regulatory standards.
  3. Perform Tests: Conduct various tests on sewage and wastewater samples, including pH, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, and bacterial content, to assess treatment effectiveness and regulatory compliance.
  4. Maintain Records: Keep detailed records of plant operations, test results, maintenance activities, and equipment performance to ensure compliance with reporting requirements and to facilitate troubleshooting.
  5. Perform Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning filters, lubricating machinery, and replacing worn or malfunctioning parts to prevent equipment breakdowns and ensure continuous operation.
  6. Troubleshoot Issues: Identify and diagnose equipment malfunctions or process inefficiencies, and take appropriate corrective actions to resolve issues and minimize downtime.
  7. Ensure Safety: Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment for oneself and others.
  8. Coordinate with Team: Collaborate with other plant operators, supervisors, and maintenance personnel to coordinate tasks, share information, and optimize plant performance.
  9. Ability to operate and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment used in sewage treatment plants.
  10. Physical stamina and dexterity to perform tasks such as lifting heavy equipment, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces.
  11. Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays, as sewage treatment plants operate around the clock.

 

This job requires a combination of technical knowledge, practical skills, and a commitment to environmental stewardship and public health. Sewage treatment plant operators play a vital role in protecting the environment and public health by ensuring the safe and effective treatment of wastewater before it is released back into the environment.
